PS3:Genji: Days of the Blade
By: Paul Burckard

As one of the few hundred thousand people who got suckered into picking up a PS3 over the holidays I've had the honor of playing some of the worst games I've ever experienced in the past few days. Genji; Days of the Blade, does not disappoint.

Even for a hack and slash game play requires a very adept knowledge of the genre to keep the user interested. If you haven?t played a similar game before you?re going to be completely lost in the confusing maps and complex button combinations necessary to navigate this world.

On the plus side this game did exactly what it was intended to do. It took an existing title, amped up the graphics and made its characters smile, and sometimes growl. The opening and cinematic animations look very good. Much better than anything I?ve seen on the PS2. The gameplay animation has also been pumped up to the point where it looks like the PS2s movies.

Gameplay mostly boils down to slashing away at dozens of drone enemies and sometimes having to slog through a puzzle to get you to the next area where you find more drones to slash at.

This game is great for those times when you have the urge to go beat someone?s face in. There are whole areas dedicated to anger management where you just jump from drone to drone beating the guts out of your enemies one limb at a time.

Overall I liked the game once I became familiar with the controls but it offers absolutely no depth and is great at what it was designed to be, a hack and slasher.
